Fox rotary limit switch

Fox rotary limit switch is used to control the movement of industrial equipment when it is necessary to measure the rotation angle and/or number of shaft revolutions. Fox is made up by a gear motor transmitting rotation to the cams and motion sensors placed inside the enclosure through a primary stage (worm gear and helical tooth gear) and a secondary stage (pair of straight tooth gears).
Fox is used on wind turbines to control the nacelle position or the pitch angle of the blades. The motor controlling the rotation of a wind turbine on the yaw axis (or blades around their longitudinal axis) transmits movement to the limit switch. A rotary encoder reads the rotation of the shaft, and its pulses are sent to a PLC which controls the position of the nacelle or blades. The movement of the shaft is also transmitted through a gear motor to a series of cam switches:  Appropriate setting of the actuating points of the cams can signal up to four critical positions of the nacelle or blades.

Features

Revolution ratios ranging from 1:3 to 1:2800 are achieved by combining different gears between the input shaft and the output shaft. Each cam can be set with great accuracy thanks to the adjusting screws. All switches are of the normally open type, thus suitable for safety functions.

Options

Fox can be fitted with different combinations of actuators and motion sensors: Sets of cams and microswitches (max. 4), encoders or potentiometers (max. 1), Yankee 1 absolute encoder for sets of cams and microswitches (max. 1). Furthermore, there is a special seat for Yankee 2 integrated incremental encoder used for detecting the shaft movements and controlling all other actuators and motion sensors. It is possible to combine different encoders, potentiometers, sets of cams and microswitches, Yankee 1 and Yankee 2, thus creating a device featuring redundancy and diversity. The limit switch is available with a flange for direct coupling to the motor. Different labels and colours are also available.

Materials

Fox features transmission and gear driving shafts made of AISI 430F or AISI 303 stainless steel, worm gear transmission shaft rotating on ball bearings, as well as self-lubricating technopolymer gears and driving bushings. The enclosure made of technopolymer is wear resistant and protects the equipment against moisture and dust.
